The project Solastalgia takes the fact that the world is changing rapidly as a given, and aims to explore the human perspective on ecological change. Solastalgia, a term invented in 2015 by scientist Glenn Albrecht, means to be homesick for a place you have never left, but that has changed forever under your feet. When Zwietering first heard of this term, it struck her, that this ‘illness’ will, in our lifetime, reach epidemic proportion.
The work Solastalgia is in process. March-July 2021 Zwietering will finish this project as an artist in residence at NARS residency, Brooklyn, new York
"[...]the series portrays the rebellion of nature, a fight against death. Here you see that nature herself still wishes to be alive." - Lize Swartz, sustainability scientist
